First and High,Nice :Model Ralph Lauren Collection | Photoshopped

Model Ralph Lauren Collection | Photoshopped

NEW YORK — A former Ralph Lauren model photographed for an advertisement image that was digitally altered and roundly criticized says she was fired because she was "too large."
First, Ralph Lauren Photoshopped model Filippa Hamilton into distorted oblivion and we were shocked. Then, Hamilton claimed Lauren fired her for being fat and we were stunned. And now, this new Photoshop Bobblehead appeared and we're speechless.
Filippa Hamilton told NBC's "Today" show on Wednesday that she was hurt when Polo Ralph Lauren let her go in April by saying she did not "meet the obligations under her contract." The terms are confidential. The company says the model's digitally altered image was displayed by mistake last week in Japan. The photo depicts a freakishly skinny and out-of-proportion Hamilton. There's sure to be some kind of new statement or development to come, so we'll just continue to ruminate on gchat about what could possibly be behind this whole thing, and let you know what we hear.

DIGITAL RETOUCHING MODELL FILIPA HAMILTON RESPONSIBLE:LAUREN

DIGITAL RETOUCHING MODELL

Last week Ralph Lauren came under fire for (what looked to be) an extremely altered photo of a model in one of its ads. Bloggers at the website BoingBoing.net posted the image online, and lawyers for Ralph Lauren attempted to sue them for copyright infringement. Unfortunately for Ralph Lauren, this only furthered public interest and outrage over the dangerously thin looking model and, eventually, the clothing company released this apology:
"For over 42 years we have built a brand based on quality and integrity. After further investigation, we have learned that we are responsible for the poor imaging and retouching that resulted in a very distorted image of a woman's body. We have addressed the problem and going forward will take every precaution to ensure that the caliber of our artwork represents our brand appropriately."
With her grotesquely thin waist and hips, she displays a figure few women would aspire to. Yet this drastically distorted image of a healthy model was chosen by the fashion label Ralph Lauren to advertise its expensive clothes.Filippa Hamilton's size eight frame underwent such a transformation in the poster for its Blue Label jeans that her head actually seems wider than her waist. Ralph Lauren quickly apologised on Thursday for the botched photograph. But critics warned of the 'toxic' influence such pictures can have on young girls. 'Size zero' models have been accused of contributing to the development of eating disorders.

Today, Ralph Lauren

Today, Ralph Lauren himself is distancing himself from the ad, claiming, "The image in question was mistakenly released and used in a department store in Japan and was not the approved image which ran in the U.S." So we're confused. They say the photoshopping was an error, that Hamilton is "beautiful and healthy," yet they allegedly fired her for her size? With all these apologies and statements it sounds like the brand still has yet to accept responsibility for their actions.

CLASSIC REFINEMENT DISCOVER
As the face of Chanel it's impossible to dispute Lily Allen's credentials as a fashionista. But while her pop star peer Rihanna is prancing around in rubber suspenders, Lily has chosen the practical way to work the trend.
On Thursday night she channelled this season's suspenders trend in a pair of sexy printed tights. Lily showed off her legs in the two-tone tights, which featured a suspenders motif embroidered in the pattern.
Other strategies for battling Ralph Lauren Doctorow plans to employ include: reproducing the ad with the original criticism, publishing Ralph Lauren's legal threats and offering "nourishing soup and sandwiches to [their] models."

The 24-year-old wore the fancy hosiery for a night out at London's Groucho Club with an eye-catching black tuxedo dress, heavy chain necklace and loose grey woollen wrap. Earlier this week Rihanna showed the hard way to wear suspenders - holding up a pair of thigh-high rubber Hussein Chalayan boots.

Ralph Lauren Fahions kid's Model

Ralph Laurn Fahions kid's Model

The truth is, models get fired or overlooked all the time for being what the industry considers overweight, we just rarely see or hear about it. Eating disorders are not only common among models, but they're also common among the women and young girls who emulate them. We're happy to see that Hamilton has come forward, and wish more models and celebrities would do the same. It's awesome and empowering when stars admit they've been photoshopped for an ad or movie poster and say how dissatisfied they are about it. With foreign countries banning underweight models from their fashion weeks, and the increasing presence of "plus size" models in women's magazines, we wish the unhealthy representation and falsified depiction of models—and women—would come to an end entirely. Do you think the day will ever come?
